Send a message to content authors
This How-to is intended for:
Public users, Registered Users
The Gateway system now provides tools enable users to contact authors of content on the site - with some limitations. This means that if a user wants to contact the author of some interesting content on the site, they now can, without the author's email becoming public.
Every content item that is created on a gateway site has the author listed in fields that are hidden to public users, but available to registered users who are logged in to the site. Once a user is logged in, they will be able to see for most content the byline by (username) last modified ..... This byline is actually a live link to the author page.
The Author page displays some basic information about the author (if they have entered this) and includes a feedback form with subject and message field, and a list of the most recent content created by the author. The author page is visible to anonymous viewers, but they cannot provide feedback without logging in.
When a user submits a feedback form, an email from the gateway will be sent to the author's email address with the content of the feedback fields. The email generated from the feedback form will list the email address of the user who submits the feedback form, enabling direct responses if the author wishes.
This means that authors can be assured that it is now possible to receive feedback on their content, without their email becoming known, until they reply to a message.
To contact an author, the process is:
- Join the relevant website if you have not already.
- Login to the website
- Navigate to the content you are interested in, and click on the author name in the byline
- Fill in the fields in the Feedback form on the Author page and click submit button
